Title: MATCHSTICK TRAVELLER |
Director: Mareike Wegener |
Country: Germany, USA |
Type / length: Documentary /54 min |
Description: On June 19th, 1995, New York born artist Al Hansen died in his studio in Cologne. It wasn't unusual for Hansen to disappear, and his body lay there until some time later. He was found under his desk, smothered in what many consider trash but what he called working materials. He was 67 years old, and working on a collage made out of matchsticks. "The Matchstick Traveller" portrays an artist who was everything at once: beat poet, pop artist, performer, Fluxus artist, author, porn editor, actor, composer, punk band manager - an axis for all post war movements, and still an outcast. The film looks back at his chaotic life, and examines the notion of failure. |

Title: WOMEN IN RED STOCKINGS |
Director: Halla Kristín Einarsdóttir |
Country: Iceland |
Type / length: Documentary / 60 min
Description: In 1970 the Red Stockings in Iceland made quite an entrance. During the next ten tears they continued to fight for awareness, equality and change in a multitude of ways, often controversial but never boring. Those were the times of the Cold War, hippies, extreme political fractions and ideas. As the movement flowed and ebbed with a variety of different characters lending a hand in the matter, the walls of repression slowly but surely began to crack.
In this film sixteen Icelandic Red Stockings tell us the story of one of the most colorful and opposed movements the island has seen. Using interviews, old footage, animation, graphics, plays and music it is a rare insight into a raucous period told by the ones that were there. |
